Native Plant Reimbursement Grants

Because native plants are a key to planting a successful rain garden, our cities, watershed districts, and Metro Blooms encourages homeowners by offering financial incentives to purchase native plants. With the help of the Hennepin County Natural Resources Incentives for Natural Habitat (NRICH) Program and the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District, Metro Blooms is able to offer a limited number of $65 Native Plant and Installation Reimbursement matching grants to landowners who have purchased native plants, and planted them in rain gardens, and can document the purchase and installation on their land.

Grants are available to Rain Garden Workshop participants on a first-come, first-served basis with the submission of an application, documentation of costs, submission of before and after photographs.

Workshop Participants outside of Hennepin County and the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District may be eligible for other reimbursement programs.  Area specific information will be available at the workshop.

Metro Blooms will reimburse up to a $65 maximum amount, or 75% of the costs of native plants and other rain garden materials costs purchased by you, (whichever is least) for rain garden installation only. Delivery fees for plants or materials are not reimbursable.

Native plants purchased with grant funds must

  • be planted in a rain garden, or
  • used to stabilize or restore an eroded area, and/or
  • reduce storm water runoff on your lot.
